The Buyer – Planner Supervisor, reporting to the Operations Manager, will be responsible for supervising the performance, production planning and purchasing functions of a Supply Chain Team.

The Buyer – Planner Supervisor will support and work closely with Manufacturing, Operations, Customer Service and Accounting. He/She will oversee and take part in converting approved Master Schedule plans, sequencing Production Orders, assisting Manufacturing in managing open purchase orders, and communicating supplier performance problems to the Operations Manager.

  • Supervisor procurement team and maintain production and inventory.
  • Ensure appropriate level of raw material inventory.
  • Convert MRP requirements to purchase orders.
  • Review and maintain the integrity of MRP parameters.
  • Convert constrained schedules to feasible Master Production Schedules (Firm Planned Orders) with detailed and executable MRP-generated plans/work orders over an established rolling horizon period and with agreed-upon frequency
  • Act independently and routinely perform moderately complex planning and problem solving
  • Identify opportunities for inventory reduction and actively support implementation as directed
  • Participate in weekly/monthly Supply Planning Schedule reviews for one or more Work Centers and ensure appropriate follow up of agreed upon actions.
  • Coordinate as needed with the Operations Manager for resolution of supplier issues (quality, delivery), or implementation of changes to the supplier base
  • Work with Accounts Payable to resolve payment issues
  • Periodically review and disposition Excess & Obsolete, Unscheduled, Expired inventories
  • Support efforts to ensure data integrity of Book-to-Physical Inventory, BOM's and Routings.


The Buyer- Planner supervisor will have direct reports, and will be responsible for appropriately coaching and leading the team to perform. The decisions made in this position will directly impact the procurement department.


  • Position requires collaboration with department managers and current/potential customers.
  • Work with Accounts Payable to resolve payment issues
  • Work with Engineering Department to revise orders or change notifications as needed

Successful Candidates should possess the following attributes:

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skills

  • The Buyer - Planner Supervisor should possess knowledge of integrated Supply Chain systems (i.e., ERP systems)
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Solid analytical, planning, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills
  • The Buyer - Planner Supervisor should have thorough knowledge of ISO requirements
  • 5+ years MPS/MRP experience with a Bachelor or Associates degree or 10 plus years of experience without a degree
  • The Buyer - Planner Supervisor must have experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint & Visio)

Preferred Requirements / Certification / Licensure

  • BS/BA in Business Administration, Logistics or related field
  • Certification (APICS and/or CPM)
