Location: Mining Solutions- Billings, Montana

SUMMARY

The Buyer - Planner, reporting to the Operations Manager, will be responsible for performing the detailed production planning and purchasing functions as part of a Supply Chain Team and is accountable for the supply management for one or more assigned Product Lines and for raw material inventory levels for assigned commodities or product lines

The Buyer - Planner will support and work closely with Manufacturing Operations, Customer Service and Accounting. He/She will convert approved Master Schedule plans, sequence Production Orders on a daily or weekly basis, and assist Manufacturing in managing open orders from Release-to-Close. The Buyer - Planner will also determine inventory parameters, manage purchase orders, communicate delivery schedules, expedite material, process returns and resolve payment issues. He/She will also be responsible for communicating supplier performance problems (sourcing, delivery and quality) to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Buyer - Planner will perform all or some of the following Job description:

  • The Buyer - Planner will maintain appropriate level of raw material inventory
  • Convert MRP requirements to purchase orders
  • The Buyer - Planner will expedite material as required
  • Frequently review and maintain the integrity of MRP parameters (lot/order size, lead times, Days Forward Supply, Safety Stock) and provide data for Key Performance Metrics (Schedule Compliance, Time Fence Violations, Work in Process, Inventory Turns, Projected Inventory at Risk/Stock Loss)
  • The Buyer - Planner will convert constrained schedules to feasible Master Production Schedules (Firm Planned Orders) with detailed and executable MRP-generated plans/work orders over an established rolling horizon period and with agreed-upon frequency
  • Act independently and routinely perform moderately complex planning and problem solving
  • The Buyer - Planner will identify opportunities for inventory reduction and actively support implementation as directed
  • Participate in weekly/monthly Supply Planning Schedule reviews for one or more Work Centers and ensure appropriate follow up of agreed upon actions
  • Review and update current product availability information on a daily basis
  • The Buyer - Planner will participate in product reviews to effectively execute new product introductions, conversions and rationalization efforts
  • Coordinate as needed with the Operations Manager for resolution of supplier issues (quality, delivery), or implementation of changes to the supplier base
  • The Buyer - Planner will process material returns • Work with Accounts Payable to resolve payment issues
  • Process Engineering Revision Orders or Change Notifications as needed
  • Periodically review and disposition Excess & Obsolete, Unscheduled, Expired inventories
  • The Buyer - Planner will support efforts to ensure data integrity of Book-to-Physical Inventory, BOM's and Routings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements / Knowledge / Skills For Buyer - Planner Job

  • The Buyer - Planner should possess knowledge of integrated Supply Chain systems (i.e., ERP systems)
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Solid analytical, planning, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills
  • The Buyer - Planner should have thorough knowledge of ISO requirements
  • 3-5 years MPS/MRP experience with a Bachelor or Associates degree or 10 plus years of experience without a degree
  • The Buyer - Planner must have experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint & Visio)

Preferred Requirements / Certification / Licensure Buyer - Planner Job

  • BS/BA in Business Administration, Logistics or related field
  • Certification (APICS and/or CPM)
